A NEW pub with “gastro” aspirations opens in the Northern Quarter today. Called simply The Northern, it’s billed as “a pub for all seasons and reasons”.
The promoters say: “Move over Rovers, there’s a new pub on the street. In noughties Manchester you’re as likely to find metrosexual loft-dwellers sipping Mohitos as flat-capped duffers quaffing Newton & Ridley ale. But in this super chi chi city of glintz and glamour something has been lost, and that is the role of the proud, upstanding British boozer.”
Apparently access to The Northern is now via an almost hidden tunnel by Northern Flower on Tib Street and past an outside courtyard with a view of the stars.
The pub will also be putting on entertainment including bands, DJs, cabaret, poetry and acoustic nights, as well as art installations.
On the food front, the house chef Rob Lamont is going to be freshly prepared using locally-sourced so I look forward to giving it a whirl just as soon as they’re settled in.
The Northern is at Tib Street , Northern Quarter, Manchester , M4 1LW.
