Flapjack anyone? Help me taste these Trek snack bars

photo (1)So who wants to try out a Trek bar? The makers of these flapjacks with a difference have given me a few to give away to readers of this blog.

I’ve already munched a few on my travels as they seemed like a good breakfast on the go option.

The snack bars are wheat, dairy and gluten free and have 10g of protein in each bar.

They’re made by British company Natural Balance Foods who started making healthy wholefood alternatives to processed foods in 2006 and who launched this Nakd range as healthy snacking option.

Bradford battles it out for curry capital crown (again)

Last year a quarter of a million curry fans voted for their favourite city, with Bradford narrowly beating Glasgow and Wolverhampton to receive the prestigious Curry Capital crown – for the third time.

And it’s voting time again.

In a press release, organisers the Federation of Specialist Restaurants (Fedrest), in association with lead sponsors hungryhouse.co.uk sent through the following informationa and the chance to win a £300 voucher.

Founded by food historian and author Peter Grove, the Curry Capital of Britain is part of National Curry Week and showcases the cultural richness of Britain’s largest cities, encapsulating the passion of the British Indian food industry.
Each participating city will be represented by four local restaurants, who will campaign on behalf of their city and make their case to the judges. The public can also now vote online for their chosen city via the new website: currycapitalofbritain.org.uk/vote, with the winning city announced on October 13. An awards ceremony will take place on an exclusive Thames River Cruise on October 27 and the trophy will be presented to the winner.

For the first time ever the awards will recognise the excellent quality of takeaway restaurants in Britain with the inclusion of the hungryhouse.co.uk Takeaway Award. The new award will go to the winning city’s best takeaway restaurant, as selected by hungryhouse.co.uk’s Top Takeways Campaign 2013.

Cooking with love! This gallery shows some of the first pictures in on the Farmers Choice Valentine’s food photo challenge. Hearts are the order of the day it would seem – and who knew chocolate pizza was the food of romance.

We’ll leave it running until midday Sunday to give you time to pick the best slot and then the winner of the essential family pack of free range meat (or a same value alternative from the veg or fish range if meat’s not your thing) from free range specialists Farmer’s Choice will be announced on Monday.

Five stocking filler books for the foodie in your life

I’ve picked out the following five food related books as they all have some sort of northern connection and have been featured here on the blog. The links go to pages where the books can be ordered. Introducing the food noticeboard

foodiesarahnoticeboardI’ve recently started a new service for this blog using the noticeboard platform n0tice.com which means people can share food related offers and deals, events or news.

I felt that this blog didn’t offer much scope to include offers or an easy way for other people to share things so I thought the noticeboard could answer both problems – plus, as regular followers will know,  I’m always looking to try out something new!

In these days of squeezed spending we all appreciate a deal, so I’m hoping that using notice.com in this way will give people a chance to spot and share bargains – whether a restaurant offer or simply anything cooking related like a cookbook share.
